Welcome to the home page of my worldwide Farmery one name geneaology study.
|
FARMERY, "a worker in, or dweller by, the infirmary". The infirmary would historically have been part of a monastery.
I have been researching my family tree since 1976. My great grandmother Jane FARMERY was born at Swallow, near Grimsby in Lincolnshire in 1863. I have always been interested in what seemed to be on an unusual surname and collect all instances of the name worldwide.
The name seems to originate in a specific geographic area of north west Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire west of the Trent, East Yorkshire (around Beverley/Swanland) and North Yorkshire (around Bedale/Ripon/Thirsk/ Easingwold). **The Farmery Y chromosome DNA study was launched in 2007**

- All my records are now held on a computer database programme (Custodian) and family trees on PAF [Personal Ancestral File]. Listed on the next page are details of my database holding as of September 2010 (over 53,000 Farmery name events!)
- Some of the main Farmery families orginate from Northorpe/Springthorpe/ Heapham, Walesby, Easingwold/Sutton on the Forest, Bedale, Thirsk, Tickhill/Wath/Rawmarsh, Swanland/North Cave, Leeds/Stockport/ Blackburn, Fishlake/Thorne. Email me details of your specific Farmery interest and I'll see what I can add. You can also subscribe to the Rootsweb Farmery mailing list.
- Since May 2000 have hosted an annual worldwide Farmery gathering (as pictured above), held in Bracebridge near Lincoln. The next gathering will be on September 24th 2011. I have a Farmery blog (which largely replaces the newsletter I have in the past published) and Farmery Families group on Facebook.
- Use the links above to access the web site of Ron Farmery in Belgium (Farmery of Thorne) or for details of Farmerie of Pittsburgh (who have French/German ancestry).
